Transport infrastructure connects people to jobs, education, and health services; it enables the supply of goods and services around the world; and it allows people to interact and generate the knowledge that creates long-term growth. She was also an author in a DFID funded study "Gender-caste growth assessment" designed to bring out the interconnections between growth and gender/caste inequalities in India. Additionally she was a regional author for the 2010 UN Report written by Naila Kabeer about inequality and if the MDG would be able to diminish the inequalities which many face. In 2007 she was one of four people appointed to be the principal investigators in a project on Urban Labour Market Inequality in India, which was initiated by Princeton University, USA and Indian Institute of Dalit Studies. From 1998-2000 Ashwini Deshpande Post-doctoral research fellow, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. Ashwini Deshpande has written several works, including books, journal articles, and papers. To help effect this system change approach, Fika is furthering the following three initiatives as outlined in the organization's strategic plan: 1) gather the evidence supporting efficacy and efficiency of safe access as a fulcrum for rural development; 2) create collective action to elevate rural transport on the development agenda; and 3) support governments with technical assistance best practices and the capacity to make smart infrastructure investments. Fika (formerly Bridges to Prosperity “B2P”) is a United States-based nonprofit organization that partners with local governments to connect communities via pedestrian trailbridges, in addition to providing technical assistance and resource mobilization. Bridges to Prosperity determined that positive results could be attained by spreading the technology by building approximately 10-20 demonstration bridges per country, training locals, partnering with local technological institutes, providing downloadable and easy to use step-by-step photo and video manuals, and supplying free wire rope and wire rope clamps/clips for post-training/demonstration programs.
